If you have a piece of art stretched onto canvas you want to frame, but the frame has a very shallow groove (called a rebate) where the canvas is supposed to sit. This can be tricky because the canvas might not fit snugly, and the frame might not hold it securely. That’s where canvas offset fixings come in handy. Canvas Offsets are designed to help the canvas fit perfectly into the frame, even when the rebate is shallow. They essentially create a slight offset, allowing the canvas to sit flush against the back of the frame while still being held securely in place.

Framers have also discovered that these fixings can be used in the opposite way. Sometimes, the frame itself might be shallower than the depth of the canvas and any backing board you might be using to support it.
